Classification Of Geothermal Heat Pump

Buried tube geothermal heat pump system is divided into open and closed type.

Open system:

Open system refers to a system in which surface water, driven by a circulating pump, flows directly through a water source heat pump unit after treatment or undergoes heat exchange through an intermediate heat exchanger.

Closed system:

It is a closed system that injects antifreeze into a closed plastic pipe buried deep underground and exchanges energy with water or soil through a heat exchanger. The closed system is not affected by factors such as groundwater level and water quality.

1. Vertical buried pipe - deep soil

Vertical buried pipes can obtain heat from deep underground soil. Vertical buried pipes are usually installed at depths of 50-150 meters underground, with one or more sets of pipes connected to the heat pump unit. The antifreeze inside the closed plastic pipes (water in the plastic pipes, and the amount of antifreeze added in the water depends on local climate conditions) transfers heat energy to the heat pump, which then converts it into heating and hot water required for the building. Vertical buried pipe is the main mode of geothermal heat pump system, which is strongly supported by government departments in various countries.

2. Horizontal buried pipe - Plastic pipes are placed horizontally at a depth of 2 meters underground on the surface of the earth, filled with antifreeze liquid and connected to a heat pump. Horizontal buried pipes cover a large area, require a large amount of earthwork excavation, and underground heat exchangers are affected by surface climate change.
